Rules
Welcome to the Campaign for Real Ale's Champion Home Brewer of the Year 2025 Competition!
The Campaign for Real Ale is launching its fourth Homebrew Competition to find the very best home brewed beer in the UK.
Judging
- 22 - 23 July 2025: 1st round judging & 2nd round judging finds the category winners (Bronze, Silver, Gold)
- 5 August 2025: 3rd round judging for Best in Show (Bronze, Silver, Gold)
All entrants will receive a complimentary ticket to the final judging on the 5th of August at the NEC in London
Entrance Fees
The first entry will cost £10 with one additional entry allowed and charged at £6 (plus any PayPal service fees)
Payment is via PayPal
Deadline for payment is the 6th of September. If fees have not been paid by then entries will not be included in judging.
Competition Rules
This competition is open to any amateur homebrewer aged 18 or older.
Minimum 4 x 500ml or 6 x 330ml glass/PET bottles required
However if you would like to have your beer tasted by attending journalists & beer authors then sending 6 x 500ml or 8 x 330ml bottles will allow us enough to offer tastings after the judging
All entries must be Bottle Conditioned
Offensive beer names will not be accepted for judging so please keep them PG rated
All mailed entries must be received at Nailmaker Brewing Co. between the 14 - 18 July 2025 - please allow for shipping time.
All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using hobbyist equipment by amateur brewers.
The competition organisers are not responsible for mis-categorised entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.
The competition organisers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.
Brewers are limited to two entries in total and one entry per category.
The competition committee reserves the right to combine categories based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.
Bottles will not be returned to entrants.
Entry Acceptance Rules
Number of Bottles Required Per Entry: 6
4 x 500ml or 6 x 330ml bottles minimum
However if you would like to have your beer tasted by attending journalists & beer authors then sending 6 x 500ml or 8 x 330ml bottles will allow us enough to offer tastings after the judging
Each entry must consist of a minimum of 4 x 500ml or 6 x 330ml capped bottles that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely.
500ml brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass will be accepted as will plastic/PET bottles too. Swing top bottles will likewise be accepted.
Bottles will not be returned to contest entrants.

Labelling
Print out an entry label from this site and attach to each bottle WITH CLEAR PACKING TAPE.
No other label or identifiable information should be present. All requisite paperwork must be submitted with each entry and can be printed directly from this website.
Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients, including allergens that must be specified on the entry system where required. Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges' scoring of your entry.
